Serena’s NYC
THE HAUTE HIDEAWAY
Head to the heart of Tribeca and you’ll find my favourite New York bolt-hole. Warren Street Hotel is impossible to miss thanks to its gleaming blue-glass façade, and the gorgeous Kit Kemp interiors are just as striking. This place is bursting at the seams with colour and creativity (much like Collagerie!) and the minute you step inside, your mood instantly skyrockets. The roof terrace is my go-to for a classic cocktail, as I soak up the view of the Hudson River and lower Manhattan, relishing the hustle and bustle of the Big Apple.

THE FASHION-WORLD FAVOURITE
I can’t visit NYC without a pitstop at Ulla Johnson’s beautiful NoHo store. Johnson is one of my favourite American designers and her boutique is as stylish as the clothes themselves. Every time I pop in, I can’t help but fall in love with the boho-chic designs I discover, and it’s a forgone conclusion that I’ll be heading home to London with new additions to my wardrobe from this fabulous fashion Mecca.
THE KIDS’ CLASSIC
The Eloise at The Plaza books are timeless children’s classics. My girls absolutely adore them, so tea in the magnificent Palm Court at The Plaza is top of our list for an unforgettable afternoon out – one for the family photo album!

THE PERFECT BLOW-DRY
New Yorkers are known for their glamour and grooming, and since I often visiting the city for work – requiring head-to-toe polish – I make a point of booking in for a blow-dry at David Mallet as soon as I touch down. Whether I’m dashing from meeting to meeting or heading to an evening event, I know my hair will retain its bounce (even if I’m flagging inside!).

THE CHIC EATERY
There’s no better place for experiencing a taste of Manhattan opulence than the breathtaking Café Carmellini. The restaurant’s dazzling interior boasts bright blue banquettes, towering greenery, sparkling chandeliers and mirrored walls that capture all the action. It’s a glamorous spectacle, and the perfect sumptuous setting for the fine dining on offer.

THE HOMEWARE HAVEN
Perhaps it’s not surprising I relate to this Brooklyn boutique: its owners are London born and NY based – my life in reverse! But it’s the decorative treats Porta offers that really set my heart beating. Think candy-striped ceramic jugs, glossy marble candle holders, vibrant glass vases, not to mention colour-drenched artworks… This jewel-box store is an interior-lover’s treasure trove.

THE SELF-CARE SPOT
A replenishing facial is always on my must-have list when I’m in Manhattan, and there’s no one I’d trust more with my complexion than Dr Macrene Alexiades. An expert in clean beauty, she boasts a light, artistic touch – not to mention state-of-the-art dermatological know-how. But don’t take my word for it; just take a look at the doctor herself. Alexiades is as beautiful as the glamorously glowing New Yorkers who visit her treatment rooms… a sure-fire guarantee your face is in safe hands. Book A Visit
THE MAGNIFICENT MUSEUM
New York has art galleries aplenty, but The Metropolitan Museum of Art – better known as The Met – is impossible to beat. The huge space is filled with history and the exhibitions second to none. It also holds a special place in my heart – and not just because the Egyptian room reminds me of one of my favourite movies, When Harry Met Sally. For me, visiting The Met takes me back to my years at US Vogue, working on the Met Gala – the ultimate in glamorous memories!

THE DATE-NIGHT DESTINATION
I never miss an opportunity to visit this legendary live-jazz venue in Greenwich Village. The Blue Note has played host to such musical megastars as Ray Charles, Miles Davis and Dizzy Gillespie and is the NYC version of London’s renowned Ronnie Scott’s. With two shows every night (plus a Sunday jazz brunch), it’s the ideal, intimate spot for an unforgettable date.
THE PERFECT PIZZERIA
My kids would never forgive me if we didn’t pay a visit to Lucali’s, the classic Brooklyn pizzeria. They don’t take reservations, so get there when it opens to ensure your name makes the list for a table. Trust me, it’s worth the wait. The thin-crust, topping-rich pizzas are ridiculously delicious!
